Online Mammal Wrapped-Body Taxidermy

3-night demonstration seminar on how to create a form for and then mount a Raccoon pup as taxidermy.
In this course, students will learn the correct techniques for museum-level mammal form and head creation for mounting a Raccoon pup. These techniques can be applied to any animal for mammal taxidermy and are the same ones I use today in mounting animals for museums across the country.
This is not a hands-on workshop, and you do not need anything at home. This is an in-depth demonstration and presentation course. While students will not participate physically or take home any pieces, they will be given links to the recordings, documents of steps, and other course materials.
Course Curriculum
Night 1 6pm PST - 8pm PST
- Presentation on overall taxidermy steps
- Review of skin preparation (Done in previous video series available on our site!)
- Using a body tracing to wrap body & limbs
- Assembly of basic body and limb forms
- Head Carving Demo
- Head attachment and test fit
Night 2 6pm PST - 8pm PST
- Posing
- Add to body form
- Create tail
- Creating earliners and gluing in
- Review of all refined parts
Night 3 6pm PST - 8pm PST
- Mounting: Clay feet, skin on, paste & sew
- Pose and put on base
- Face work
- Discussion of finishing work
- Finishing work docs with photos will be emailed to students.
We will send out the ZOOM link and password the day before the course is to air. Please do not share it! We are a small business and need all the support we can get.
Students will also be sent a follow-up email a week after the course with the high-res recordings, a PDF copy of the presentations, a step list, a supply list, and a list of resources discussed in the course.
