Baby Goats
4-Day Intensive Mammal Taxidermy Lessons
January 23 & 24, 30 & 31st
ONLY 5 SPOTS PER CLASS
Allis will provide each student with a prime-condition, pre-prepared & tanned skin of their specimen. These specimens are from natural deaths at farms which Prey has a relationship with.
Students will have a call or Zoom with Allis to discuss pose and base ideas. The sky is the limit! We will work together before class to make sure you have all the materials to complete your baby goat goals. Prey will provide most base materials, but students may bring in additional materials.
Curriculum:
Prep: Students will be emailed free access to Allis' Mammal Wrapping & Mounting Pre-Recorded Course. They do not have to watch this, but as it will cover much of what we will be doing, it is encouraged. They will also be given access to our Pre-Recorded Skinning & Tanning Course so they can see the work that lead up to their skin being prepared for class.
Day 1: Students will start by reviewing referrence, their carcass and carcass tracing for wrapping their body. We will start with the limbs (one front and one back example will be provided) and then move onto the body. We will keep the desired pose in mind.
Day 2: Modification and refinement of the limbs and body. Assembly of limbs to body. Test fit and refine. We will then pour up and refine the heads -- pre-created from deathmasks into molds (as taught on the Wrapped Mammal Video). Creation of earliners.
---Break -- (students may take their pieces home to refine if necessary)
Day 3: Assembling head to wrapped body and pose. Test fit skin. Insertion of earliners to skin. Clay ears and hooves. Mounting the skin on the form and sewing. Specimens sewn by end of day.
Day 4: Facial details: clay face, insert eyes, nose, tuck mouth. Work to create realistic expression, proper skin taxi, eye setting, and pin. Set up on temporary base. Review finishing work.
Prey Taxidermy will provide all supplies, tools & specimens for your classes.
