Replicas are a great way to preserve animals with scales such as reptiles and fish using mold-making and painting techniques. These skills can also be applied to many other aspects of taxidermy. The rattlesnake species we will be replicating will be our own Los Angeles native, the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake.

Choose from two different poses: Slithering or Coiled

In class we will:

  1. Demo preparation of specimens for molding
  2. Proper silicone molding tecniques
  3. Students will cast their own smaller specimens in urethane resin
  4. Demolding or urethane resin and prepare for painting
  5. Students will then get their own unpainted large Rattlesnake cast and learn painting steps. This section will include airbrushing, using dry pigments and hand painting techniques.
  6. At the end of the day, students will have a painted rattlesnake replica as well as a take home kit to help further your new skills at home.

Take Home kit includes:

- Students' cast baby rattlesnake to paint at home
